I spent quite a bit of time trying to run one down for a 251 engine. First step is to get the number off the distributor and google it.
There's a lady up in Canada who specializes in vacuum advances. I'll see if I can find her email address if you like.
Ebay is a great source, but the vacuum advances look so much alike it's difficult to tell them apart. Some of the people selling have the books and can tell you which is the right one. Look for people who appear to be selling multiple vacuum advance units.
I seem to remember someone who was rebuilding vacuum advances, but that would be a last resort.
I'd try to find a distributor from a non-vacuum advance engine if a working vacuum advance can't be found.
