You want to hook it up to a vacuum pump and see if it moves the plate inside. Also inside the vacuum port on the advance you can take a small Allen wrench and adjust how far it travels. But i wouldn't fool with that. You want ported vacuum but you may not have it on your engine. Manifold vac will pull it on all the time. Unless you hit a big hill and it drops. Just like the wipers. Some have it some dont. 10 degree advanced and you should be good. You pump came in today will go out Saturday. Have Fun. Bill
