Hey Sherman, It sounds like me and you have about the same project going on. I am pulling the origonal motor on my 48 for a rebuild over the winter. I use my 48 on a regular basis so I can't afford much down time. I have a 230 Plymouth motor with a vacume advance on it. Mine is hooked up to the carb. Now my carb and intake manifold is a two barrel. I check mine with the vacume pump and it worked so I am leaving it on as it does make a big differance, at least for me.
Is where I ran into a problem was with the mechanical fuel pump. It is differant than the one that is on the 48. It has a differant pump lever that is longer. I did find one on ebay. Good luck and keep me posted on your project.
