The straight pipe exhaust is the simplest and cheapest way to start. Cut the junk out of the line and weld a length of pipe in it's place.
The Banks Intercooler and the AFE air system are reasonably priced upgrades. The Dynatrac kit will set you back a little more.
If you have a 6 speed and plan to tow a trailer, consider an exhaust brake by Jacobs or some other source. I have a Jacobs and use it all the time, towing or not.
