Door lock on passenger side whether RHD or LHD was because of a perceived safety issue. Back in time we had narrow roads, in town where you might want to lock the truck, it was considered dangerous to expose yourself to traffic for an extended time period (like locking the door), so the driver door locked from inside, then you slid across the seat to get out and finally lock the passenger door. As this system was already in use when the cabin was designed, it just carried on.
