I think the key to keeping it working is TO move it now and then. The thermostatic kind never get stuck because they're always jiggling around, but the manual ones seem to always be stuck. My favorite was the Tucker Sno-Cat whose heat riser was stuck in the "summer" position. Who would set a Sno-Cat to anything other than "winter"?
