Get the IP checked out. Then there's the oil squirter that's putting oil on the underside of the piston to help keep it cool.
Etc.
Again, I'm merely a diesel hobbyist and I have not even owned a Cummins so I'm far from being someone one would really like to "pick your brain" on something like this. There can be very specific issues at times that folks in the business see on a regular basis and can easily diagnose. At times we shadetree mechs are chasing our tails before finding the issue.
