That's a pretty impressive load for a pickup of any kind -- downhill and good traction no doubt helped a lot, plus there's no substitute for weight when it comes to towing. I believe a PW weighs in at 5800 lbs empty. Figure a coefficient of friction of maybe .7 and you've got 4000 lbs of pull. Or another way to look at it is if rubber on dirt has a higher coefficient of friction than tree on dirt, the truck can pull a tree that weighs up to 5800 lbs.
