If you had a 2-speed PTO like some of them, then you'd want to be sure that both "forward" speeds reeled the cable in. With a 1-speed PTO, with forward and reverse the same speed, it doesn't matter. Heck, there might even be a theoretical reason to reverse it at some point to even out the wear on the winch gears.
