OT-Lee End Lift

I have a Lee End lift that I was using on my trucks, and was wondering, are these really rated for only 1.5 tons? It lifts the back of my WM nicely but struggles with the front (w/winch mounted), and it won't even pick up my diesel van.
Has anybody converted these to hydraulic so they lift more?
