Even engine probs? Compression? Maybe burnt or maladjusted valves? Step one of every tune up is a cranking rhythm test- unhook the coil lead and crank it. It should sound monotonous- hup-hup-hup-hup-hup-hup. If it sound hup-hup-hup-hup-ooo-hup-hup-hup-hup-ooo, you have a mechanical problem. Proceed to a dry compression test.

It's easy to blame what you don't understand. But it doesn't sound like carb.

Carbs have 4 systems. Idle, transfer, main. and enrichment. Missing at idle could be one prob, missing at speed probably main, missing when you nail it enrichment. Not likely to have all those screwed up.

But you only have one ignition system.
