Does it have ground to it also? Measure from starter post to starter housing, in case there's a bad ground somewhere else. Then as mentioned it's easy enough to take the cover off the switch mechanism. There should be a heavy copper "bolt head" in the switch cover, another on the starter, and a heavy copper wedge-shaped plunger that connects them when the button is pressed. They wear out eventually, and as far as I can tell no starter switch currently in production will fit as a replacement. If worn out, all the pieces will be there but will just be worn down too far to make good contact. With the cover off, jumper from the battery hot post direct to the heavy copper lug on the starter motor itself with a heavy wire (one half of a jumper cable works). There should be a spark and the motor should spin freely. It won't crank the engine unless you manually engage the pinion via its lever. If still no action from the motor, you'll have to pull it, take it apart, and find out why. The windings are so heavy that they are unlikely to have burned out, but the brushes could be worn out. If it does spin, try engaging the pinion and see if it turns the engine over. I assume you've already turned the engine over by hand with a wrench on the crank pulley so you know it's free.
