Spring mounts, brackets, and winch parts are "Malleable Iron", It's cast iron that is roasted at 800 degrees for 24 hours. which turns it into 'semi-steel'. t can be bent cold-a little- and also welded. Though modern silicone bronze is as strong as steel.
And I think I'll gusset the next winch bracket I need to repair. Maybe even gusset the next one that doesn't NEED it?
