Upper spring seats

Got the rear axle in place last night and noticed the gap between the spring and U-bolt. Did some searching here and saw Paul's post about the upper spring seats. I had forgotten about them since mine were too far gone to save.

I still have one from the rear spring pack but it's not something I would want to re-use.

Is there any issue with just making some new ones from bar stock and drilling a hole to clear the center bolt?

I know the original ones have some shape to them but I'm not sure if there is any real reason for it, at least at the rear. I can easily bond some urithane or rubber to the front ones for the bump stops, but do they need to be anything more than a plate with some end reliefs to match the U-bolts?
