I agree with everybody else it is air or steam trying to get past the thermostat. If you want remove the thermostat and drill a 1/16" hole in the flange to allow the air or steam to escape. As far as better mileage with a hotter stat, I have seen no increase on any of my diesels and all of them run a 190 degree stat. I use them for better warm up and more heat in winter.
