I was helping a friend start what we thought was an old flat head ford engine the other day. The engine hadn't run in 20 years but turned over freely. Turns out it was a French copy of a ford flat head! I had never seen one before.
After doing all the usuall prep we couldn't get it to fire. The spark was weak and we checked continuity through out the ignition system. A bad coil wire and a weak coil were replaced but no change. We looked under the distributor and found that it was a dual point distributor with no room for a condenser, and it didnt have an external one either. After wiring in a condeser guess what, it fired right up!
