Paul is 100% correct. Use a dual reservoir master system. It is a matter of safety. If you are going to put it in a museum, go a head and keep the entire original system. If you are going to put the disks up front then the dual master cylinder is a no brainer. I happen to like Ugly Truckling's under the floor master system but I am not sure if he still makes it.
If you repower with a V8 or a 4BT then disks are manditory as is a full brake system upgrade. Even with a dual master and good original drums you will not stop well from a higher speed. I did a test on ly carryall. I was doing 80MPH and hit the brakes for a hard stop (not panic) by the time I was doing about 30 MPH the brakes were fading soooooo badly that there was no real braking force. In my stock 51 PW I was doing 35 down a slight hill with about 1 1/2 yards of gravel in the bed I ran right through a red light. I was prepared for the light to change. I was 2 blocks from the light I down shifting and was braking carefully. I ended rolling through the intersection at 5 MPH with my foot to the floor. The drums faded that badly. Disks are going on the fron of that truck.
I would recommend not using a vaccum booster system. Use a Hydroboost system as it gives you much better brakes.
