Try to find a NP205 fine spline output shaft and see it it will fit in the 201. Also, ask GV if their input is just a "spud shaft" which can be made in fine splines. Advance Adapters has lots of spud shafts with all sorts of spline combinations laying around waiting to be installed in all their adapters.
Finally, find out if GV or their supplier can supply you with a "blank" input shaft for their NP205 adapter/overdrive. If they are willing to do so, you can have 1.375" coarse splines machined into it. Among others, I'm sure Advance Adapters has a splining machine.
If that's the only obstacle it has to be overcome-able. Are you willing to pay $23-2400 for one of their overdrives? For that money, you could purchase a professionally rebuilt NP540 (0.821) or Clark 280VO (0.799) and have enough left over to pay for machine work on the bellhousing and driveline shortening. For another $700 you could buy an Eaton/Fuller FSO-5406A 6 spd (7.04, 4.13, 2.52, 1.59, 1.00, 0.78) which would be a totally "skookum" gearbox especially behind a diesel. With 4.89s, unless it's an awfully high revving diesel, like a small car diesel (Mercedes etc.). Speaking of which, both Mercedes and BMW are coming out with V8 twin turbo diesels in the 4.4-5L category, for their SUVs and largest sedans. Probably governed in the 4500 rpm area. Rated at about 250 hp and 400 ft-lb. And costing in the vicinity of half a years income for a lot of us. One can fantasize...
