FUEL SENDING UNIT OPTIONS

On my c-1-pw (1954) the fuel sending unit gives a resistance of 1 - so it is dead. 1. WHat are my options for an easy fix/replacement to replace the sending unit and still use my original guage , which works from 90(Empty)-10 (Full) ohms resistance like it should.
2. HOw do I get the old one off - it looks like it is permanantly attached (no screws). Do I pry/cut it out and use a new unit with screws? DO I go to a auto shop for help?
3.Where can I get another sending unit? Has anyone tried the one in Whitney (86-10 ohms)? I do not care if it is original, I just want it to work. thx
