This is the 2WD version. The cast ironm part is ~12.5" long, so it looks like the whole thing is quite long at about 22" from the flat front of the case, maybe even 24". The distance from the back of the bellhousing with the stock motor to the rear U-joint of the driveline is about 23". Even if you gain 4" with a V8 vs. the flathead, that may barely leave 3-5" for a mini-driveshaft. The shortest I've been able to find in my research on the phone using Spicer 1350s is about 5.5". Someone using one on a Dodge talked about cutting some of that long tailhousing off, but then shaft modifications and machine work for a support bearing and oil seal would be required, also to fit a yoke.
Ab alternative is to replace the tailhousing with the 4WD piece which allows bolting a married transfer case to it. Choices include:
NP205 - strong but only 1.96 low range
NP203 gear eduction box, adapter from Offroad Design, and NP205 - strong, all cast iron/big gears, 2.01 and 3.94 low ranges
"Modern" aluminum TC, with planetary gears and chain. Basically much more prone to fail than the cast iron stuff above. 2.7 low range, strongly recommend one of the heavier duty versions like a NP271
Married Atlas TC from Advance Adapters. Aluminum case but big gears (not quite as large as NP205), choice of 3.77 and 4.33 low ranges. They recommend it for GVW under 6000 lb so it's really not recommended for a M37 or Power Wagon; but it probably will hold up.
All the above have centered rear output unless the NP205 is altered using NP200 parts.
