Whatever you use, be sure to settle on a good sealer and finish. Then make sure the wood is dry, at least at 6% moisture. Apply sealer and finish to ALL surfaces, including inside the groove. If you have to drill a hole, get some inside the hole. This should all assure it doesn't buckle or shrink. I laid the boards on my flat bed slightly loose, because I didn't want water to stand, but you can't hardly do that with the wood in a factory bed.
