last forum, i posted a question about a possibly bad coil. i was using a repro 12v autolite with ground tab in my command car. it started to run hot and my truck died when i pulled out from a parking spot after idling for about 20 minutes. i replaced the stock coil with a pertronix coil that matches my pertronix ignition. works great now. the difference between a good coil and bad coil is notable and i thank everyone for their assistance. a winter project will be to machine the old coil to fit over the modern replacement.
