Yea the truck I was having problems with was my WC-53. I had not connected all of the ground straps after rebuilding. The ones on the hood and etc were not put back on as they were beyond repair. Everything that opened or move on that truck had a ground strap to stop any stray sparks. But once I replaced the main ones all was fine.
They did that on the 3/4 ton WC to stop any stray sparking from the radio or electrical systems along with any static build up. Stray sparks with cans of gas, explosives and all sorts of fun cargo in these trucks was not a good mix. Good grounding is critical for radio trucks to get the best of signals. Just look at the voltage regulator in a radio truck. Really a monster to stop any interference.
