Mostly because there are lots of Wal*Marts around and they have a 3 year total replacement guarantee so if the truck sits all winter, the battery goes dead and won't charge in the spring, you get a new battery. I believe there are actually only two battery manufacturers, Dekka and Exide, and everybody else OEMs them from one of those.
