Its believed she was released due to overcrowding. The state is releasing State inmates to County jails to ease the "burden" on the State prison system. Causing a burden on County jails, meaning lesser criminals are being released at the rate of a few hundred a day.
This is affecting CAL FIRE in a different way also. Since we use inmate fire crews, we are loosing crews fast. At our local camp, we used to have 5 crews staffed at 18 to 22 per crew. This was great for wild land fires as we knew we had at a minimum 40 additional fire fighters coming, besides our engines. We now have 5 crews staffed at 10 to 14, the inmates are being sent to County jails and the State wants to close some camps all over the state.
