You don't need epoxy under the sleeve unless it's horrible. Some non-hardening permatex under the sleeve is always a good idea, though. Metal-filled epoxy is definitely better than nothing. If your goal is to just patch up your truck enough so you can drive it around, by all means go for it, or just polish the yoke as best you can with emery cloth, pop a fresh seal in, and accept a certain amount of leakage.
