On top of each main bearing cap is a 5/16 drilled/tapped hole where the lock for the adjustment is bolted.
I bent 2 pieces of .250"x1.0 wide into a L shape. Then I drilled a5/16" hole in one leg of the L bracket for each side.
Now bolt these brackets to the top hole on each main bearing cap. The Standing part of the L bracket extends up above the ring gear.
You can now use a standard 6" digital caliper to measure your case spread.
Primitive, sure....but it works like a charm.
The .250 thick stock of your L bracket is not going to bend, your just measuring case spread.
