The 2wd and 4wd cabs are the same. The 2wd trucks had the tank under the cab between the frame rails with the filler neck coming out next to the door so both cabs ended up with a hole for the filler neck in the cab. The solution to this hole on the 4wds was a rubber plug.
There were no gas tanks behind the seat from the factory until 1961 (though I have seen many trucks that had one added later on).
It sounds like your truck still has the original tank for a 4wd.
