I might prefer angle iron instead, as it allows more room to bolt down the decking. Channel is lacking for a flat spot, so it makes it a bit more difficult and because the bottom flance gets in the way of tools. Angle equivalent to C3x3.5 would be 3x3x3/16 or (2 1/2 x 2 1/2 x 3/8)
Both are pretty common.
