I agree with scott. I had a similar issue with one of the Road Runner upper ball joints - ended up taking the A-arm with the spindle attached off of the car (bottom one came right off on that side).
Figured I could get a better swing with the hammer with it out of the car. Beat on it until I wore out and then finally took it to my Dad's place and hit it with the Oxy/Acetylene for 5 seconds and then let it cool and it popped right out with a single tap.
