In my experience the NP 200 is quiet if rebuilt and set up right. some times people set them up too tight. I did that once. ;/) I think it gets blamed for noise that really comes from the stock trannies. But also most of my rigs have been centered rear axle so no energy is going through the gears. The last one I had with the offset rear axle was not noisy to me either but I could tell a slight difference compared to haveing a centered rear. If it is working dont fix it! the 200 is tough!
