drill press question

I have an older bench style drill press, made in Taiwan, that I bought about 25 years ago. It's been a good tool, fairly heavy duty, not some little twinkie thing. However, recently the chuck has slid off it's shaft several times. It is not held in place by any other means except friction. Is there anything I can do to improve this problem, besides driving it back on or replacing the tool?
