Here's a cheap way for a second hand/spring pole. I use a a spring loaded closet rod. You normally can find them for free from people who move or cheap at goodwill and such.
I just TIG a slip over ring on the backside of the backer. Have a selection now to choose from and a simple spade drill make an extender from any 2x4 on the opposite end.
