Why does the wiring on 70's trucks blow?

Noticed brake lights quit on my W600. The switch has power & works, but the other wire shows to be grounded out. Since all the wires from bulkhead back to rear of truck are less than 6 mths old, I suspect under dash issues (either fusebox or T/S-Hazard part of steering column.)

No biggie!

I'm sure I will figure this out quickly, just ranting that EVERY Dodge I have ever owned has given me electrical fits. Always something.
