It seems like it's the 1970s all over again with all the pitches for magic fuel saving gizmos, mostly magnets and "catalysts". One of them is supposed to inject platinum vapor (!?!) into the gas and claims a 20% mileage improvement by increasing combustion.
Think about this. If there was 20% to be gained by increasing how much gas actually burns, then in a normal engine 20% of the gas would be going out the tailpipe unburned. Not only would no vehicle be able to meet smog rules for HC emissions, but you'd smell it all the time.
Smog tests mostly measure HC and CO, both of which represent wasted energy potential as well as pollution. The allowed numbers are very low. People who try to commit suicide these days by running a hose from the exhaust pipe into their car or running their car in a closed garage run out of gas before they die. Basically, THERE IS NO UNBURNED FUEL for any of these magic catalyst / polarity / excitation / magnet / flux capacitor / disencabulator contraptions to burn.
