...in my opinion the electrical systems on old Dodges were particularly badly designed. The Dodge engineers did a great job with the mechanicals, but as a rule they were way too optimistic about the ability of sheet metal screwed to sheet metal bolted to a frame strapped to a battery to carry a ground all the way through. It probably worked okay for a while, but not after things get rusty. I've also noticed that modern vehicles never rely on the body to carry a ground at all. Everything I've seen has two wires in the harness for every light bulb, sensor, actuator, or whatever.
