When I was a kid, they always blamed weird weather on the Russians. Now it's "climate change". The fact is people have short memories and short lives compared to the cycles of nature. When somebody says "I don't remember it ever snowing this much / raining this hard / being this windy / being this hot / etc" the part of that sentence that's true is "I don't remember".
