Generator and Starter Rebuilding

I would like some help rebuilding some generators and starters. I have the manuals and can get the parts, but I don't have some of the tools or knowledge. I rebuilt a generator long ago on my first truck, but was hoping to do a better job this time. I could take them to the local auto electric shop but I wouldn't be able to help and wouldn't learn a thing. Is there anyone within a few hours of WV that wants to teach a newbie?
