I swapped motors in mine, so I don't know alot about those carbs, I did have a similar problem with a 283 chevy with a rochester 2 bbl and it ended up being a little ball of crap stuck in the fuel inlet on the carb. Also happens on my old JD mower from time to time, gets a little tiny bit of debris stuck in the main jet and quits.
Before I tear apart the carb (on anything) I always pop off the line between the carb and pump to eliminate the pump first....if no fuel, I go backwards from there.
