I was looking into switching over to hydraulic, but quit after I started adding up the costs. All the parts were going to add up to 3 times as much as pto. The other issue is if you plan on running the winch for long periods of time, you will need to have a decent size hydraulic tank to keep the oil from overheating. I got a 352 pto, pto shaft and a mu2 winch for 300 bucks. I lucked out since everything was in good shape, but there out there. I have seen ptos at swap meets and I think they are all the same except the input gear on the 352. I would like to go to hydraulic some day but I am going pto for now.
