I don't think it's such an issue with the inlets, but we are talking military 251's driven by anyone and driven hard. I know the late military 251's have different exhaust valves, so maybe those valves grow more than the standard valves. Also maybe the military don't want to be adjusting the valves as often as others might, so who cares about a bit of ticking under the hood?
