I had my driveshafts balanced at the driveline shop where I used to work. It was not easy. There is a little too much slop in the splines. I do not know if this is because of the way they were designed with loose tolerances, or because of 60 years of wear. That little bit of sloppiness made it almost impossible to accurately balance them. With that said, we were able to eliminate a lot of vibration though the balance may not be perfect.
Another thing that really helps is installing unlocking hubs. One can properly phase and align the rear driveshaft very easily, but the front can not be unless a constant velocity joint were used.
I find a big difference is made from assuring the intermediate shaft is phased to the rear driveshaft. Once this is done, it stays until low range is used. Then, it has to be manually phased again by placing the transfer case in its false neutral and crawling under the truck to rotate the intermediate shaft properly.
