It's a pleasure to watch a real old-time professional house-mover at work. They really know what they're doing and it's amazing how quickly they can get a house jacked up and onto a pair of I-beams using nothing but rollers, a small winch, 4 jacks and a lot of cribbing. As an aside, powerwagons seem overrepresented in old-time house moving pictures, even after the trucks were "obsolete" for most uses. The movers liked the fact that they could go real slow.
When I was a kid the Port of Seattle bought up all the houses under the flight path at SeaTac airport so the people would stop complaining about the noise. A lot got torn down, but a lot also got jacked up, moved down to Redondo Beach, loaded on barges, and installed as beach houses in the San Juan Islands.
