Natural gas, but that is of no help to you. what we have not heard about here is anything about solar heat or corn burners.
A lot of people around me have solar panels to supplement other heat. I have never lived in a house with solar heat, so I have no idea of the cost and I have not really spoken to any home owners about it. I did have a heating contractor one time tell me that we have too many cloudy days in this part of the Midwest for solar to really help much. But, he was in the business of selling conventional forced air furnaces so he may have been biased.
I know corn burners are real popular around here also. I have not seriously looked into one, but I have not heard many negatives. We have an old inefficient fireplace that gets used for "atmosphere". Have thought about an insert to make it more efficient and we do have the room for either an outdoor wood stove or corn burner.
If I were going to build new, I would seriously look into geothermal.
