No recommendation here, but some information. I bought a farm house in June that runs on propane. Although on a per gallon rate is cheaper than fuel oil, it is still pricey - I am locked in at a rate of $2.52/gallon for the Winter and I have gone through 500-600 gallons so far (just re-filled!). I haven't looked at the BTU rate to compare the fuels. Depending on where you live, some options you might not have considered are wood (stove, outside boiler, or forced air) and geothermal. I like the idea of geothermal because you can both heat and cool with it, and the operating costs are low; but it's supposed to be pretty expensive to install.
