the reason they had a cable was because it is a carry over from the WC 62 and WC63 6x6 trucks. they had an extra cross member between the trans and Tcase that supported the spare tire carrier. in interfered with where a rod would go. the cable acutlly was bolted to that Xmember with a Ubolt. Early PWs also ran the 6x6 Tcase mounting brackets as well.
