The roof seam is a sandwich affair , it is made up of the roof , header and the metal bead . Altogether I think there are four layers in the sandwich . The roof and the header do not line up sometimes due to manufacture error . Other times they do not line up due to rust at the seam or the spot welds have popped .
Some folks cut off the bead and weld the whole remaining sandwich together and then fill .
A few remove the layers and weld the roof and header together with a whole lot of metal work and one or two hammer welded seams .
I like the looks of the bead . So I would remove the old one , weld the seam and then build a new seam from lead .
But that is my personal , biased red neck opinion .
