flathead water pump

OK...here's the deal, I go out for a drive, come home and park the beast. The next day there's a little puddle of coolant under the motor (leaking from behind the pully)BUT..this only happens MAYBE one out of every eight times that I drive her, all the other times....NO puddle, not even a drip. SO, can I replace the seal in the water pump?, should I put on a new water pump before I wish I had, change grease, or just forget it cause everything else leaks a little bit too?
