Your sweet '59 W300 has the 10 bolt PTO on the transfer case, and the direction the PTO spins is determined by the transmission. Anytime you put the truck in reverse the PTO, and any PTO powered hydraulic pump, will run backwards. This might harm the pump and/or hydraulic system, yet another reason to run the hydraulic pump off the engine via V belt.
