Never call the CHP or DMV about this type of stuff. In fact don't tell anyone from either state agency about it. Just keep the title with the body. I went to the CHP to get a VIN # verified on a 38 Dodge P/U. Since it didn't have an engine (old VIN was engine #) they wouldn't verify until I completed the truck so they could verify if any of the parts I was using were stolen. It was a major fiasco since all I was trying to do was get it titled in my name to sell it. All they need to know is that the body is what it's supposed to be.
